Synopsis of The Crown of Glass

The Crown of Glass is a narrative poetry collection told across seven nights, tracking haunted constellations and bizarre tales across the Palouse.

Patrick Granger, searching for his lost love Helena Winscott, ventures west into The Strangest Unknown, guided by unsettling voices coming through a field phone with an attachment to speak with the stars.

Blending cosmic horror, analog transmissions, and haunted Americana, the book follows Patrick and the drifting perspectives around him as he chases Helena's flickering blue star and voice through The Cosmic StarDuster.

With The Crown of Glass constellation shimmering above, a congregation of seven stars set to haunt the world in their own way, the line between prayer, confession, and transmission begin to dissolve.

Characters From The Crown of Glass

Patrick Granger

Musician, known for his album "The Stars, The River, And Her." After the disappearance of his wife, he was accused of her murder. Winscott left a letter before her disappearance, and Granger believes she headed somewhere West. On the run from the law, Granger makes his way from his home in the South in search of his lost love, only to come across The Cosmic StarDuster, following her voice as a star. On his search for Winscott, he carries a field phone, a type of phone in a wooden box, with the StarDuster attached, willing to do whatever he can to see her again.

Helena Winscott

Wife of Patrick Granger, mostly known for her stage performances with Granger. Disappeared without a trace.

Soren Wilder

Adventurer and wayfarer, known for his book series "The Wayfarer." After making a cosmic deal for a heart-shaped map that takes him where his heart most desires, he gets stuck on an endless trail in search of his lost love, Duskbloom.

Duskbloom

Duskbloom, romantically associated with Wilder, is a legend mirrored to Wilder's book series, known as a flower of what once was. She is rooted at the summit of a mountain, ashamed to face away from the moon for eternity.

Maren Voss

Local scientist and researcher of the unknown. Known for her published works around haunted constellations and urban legends, Voss continues to search for what took her best friend from this planet. Skeptical, Voss refuses to believe that Elise was abducted.

Sylvia Cross

After the loss of her brother, Sylvia became more on edge, believing every bit of legend or myth she read about the local area. Determined to bring her brother back, she believes that killing The Chosen of the Nebula will trade back a life for her brother.

Elias Thorne

CEO of StarDuster Enterprise, creator of the official StarDuster, regrets his involvement in the creation and research, and blames himself for the loss of his daughter, who is starbound because of his very own creation.

Madam Wren

Radio station fortune teller, Madam Wren is known for her late night show on KRFX 90.3, providing a fortune or telling for a viewer, indirectly. Only the right viewer knows if the telling is for them and their own fate.

Dale Whitlock

Host of "The Signal Below" on late night KRFX's 90.3. Often comical and cynical, Dale discusses local urban legends with a guest, and discusses the legitimacy of myths and folklore and recent scares.

Marla Hensley

Field Reporter for KVRX's Channel 7 News, often covering strange happenings in the area. Frequent guest of 90.3's "The Signal Below."

Cassian Holloway

Worker of a lonely gas station. Often working by himself, Holloway is convinced he's a prophet for some reason. Likely crazy, but still right sometimes.

Julius Leroy

With his desire for love, Leroy receives a letter in the mail promising love if he listens to what it says. Something about a crown, or something about stars. Does it really matter if a beautiful lady waits on the other side?

The Cosmic StarDuster

A device of many voices. Based on a real life spirit box, it attaches to any landline phone through the port, and functions as a radio through your phone. Then, it receives messages from the stars above. Mostly a novelty toy, it makes a grand appearance here with Granger's field phone. This device is known for its mostly distorted messages, and we're still unsure whether or not we're speaking with who it says we are.

Traditional Folklore Vol. I & III

The Traditional Folklore series, I-XIII, except only two are cited. Contains content

Marceau Duval

Not much is known of Duval, as he performed a ritual to erase his name from the memory of the stars above. He's French, though.
